All the materials are provided. We have a lot of yarn of different colors and types, but if you feel like working with a specific one then just bring it.<br />

-As it is an extended period of working time, I would recommend to bring something to drink and something to snack and even to share. I will bring some fruit for everybody.<br><br />

<p>Following the example of the “círculos de palabra” (word circles) we will exchange thoughts and stories that we will weave into an object. Based on several handcraft techniques, we are going to twist, braid, and loom ropes together. Each rope is the materialization of an algorithm and the vessel of a narration. All hands will be working rhythmically in a collective choreography, harmonized to the sound of our words.<br><br />
This is a hands-on-workshop that emphasizes on group storytelling, as a way to escape individualism.<br> <br />
We will have the common goal of making a “Warak'a” (Andean sling) and a “Chumbe” (belt).<br><br />
No previous knowledge is needed.</p><br />

From selecting a case, through soldering together buttons, knobs and other inputs, to establishing a communication protocol; all the basics of DIY electronics will be covered and each one will go home with a functional device.<br />
In the end, it is all just an excuse to build funky, freaky, playful and personalized electronics. :) Let's have fun in building custom made electronics to fit each one's artistic needs. <br><br />

<p>Why leave anything to chance if we can control everything?! Computer autonomy? NO thanks. We will control image, sound, VR, 3D, IRL installations, etc. all in real-time! Control, control, ctrl.<br><br />
We will learn how to build and program our own MIDI/OSC controllers using open source software and hardware.<br><br />
From selecting a case, through soldering together buttons, knobs and other inputs, to establishing a communication protocol; all the basics of DIY electronics will be covered and each one will go home with a functional device.<br />
In the end, all the control is just an excuse to build funky, freaky, playful and personalized electronics that are custom made to fit each one's artistic workflow. <br><br />
No previous knowledge is needed but it helps out if you have already soldered or programmed a bit.</p><br />

The basic seminar material & process aims to examine materials and material processes, in interaction with technologies and their aesthetics, in a personal and social context. The basis of every artistic work is material, whether haptic and physical as material, carrier and medium or/and structural and immaterial as coding. The consideration and examination of the interdependencies of material in their fundamental principles, in their translations and overlaps between the digital and the physical, will be carried out in the seminar through experiments and material studies. Material processes and algorithmic sequences are part of practical exercises and theoretical introductions. The focus is on observing and getting to know material as an independent element, as well as on working with materials and their processes. Students can develop their own experiments and models using basic techniques and existing equipment. Analog materials and tools for processing material on a digital and mechanical level (e.g. CNC production such as laser cutters, milling machines or printing techniques such as Riso) are available. The principles discussed in the seminar can become the basis for works and concepts on a sculptural and/or digital level.<br />

Das "Open Lab" versteht sich als offenes Forum und Treffpunkt<br />
zur Diskussion aktueller Interessen und gemeinsamer Forschungs-<br />
schwerpunkte innerhalb der Fächergruppe exMedia und darüber<br />
hinaus. Im Zentrum des Open Labs stehen Workshops zu<br />
experimentellen Methoden, Arbeitsweisen und Techniken, die sowohl<br />
von Euch Studierenden selbstorganisiert, als auch von uns Lehrenden<br />
sowie eingeladenen Gästen angeboten werden. Die jeweilige Form<br />
ist frei gestaltbar. Es kann sich hierbei um einen Kurz-Workshop<br />
in der Entstehungsphase handeln, oder aber auch um ein bereits<br />
ausgereiftes Workshopformat. Auch Vorträge, Projektpräsentationen,<br />
Diskussionsrunden, Exkursionen o.ä. sind ergänzend möglich.<br />

In der Umfrage, die der Publikation "The Second Sound" vorausging, wurden Musiker*innen und Klangkünstler*innen zur Rolle befragt, die Gender in einem breiten Sinne auf ihre künstlerische Praxis und ihr Werk hat. Obwohl einhellig bestätigt wurde, dass Persönlichkeit und Lebensumstände Einfluss haben, löste die gleiche Frage zum Teil großen Widerstand aus.<br />

In diesem Workshop soll dieser Frage auf den Grund gegangen werden. Es werden gemeinsam Beispiele von Sound-Werken angehört und in dieser Hinsicht besprochen. Was für eine Person ist der/die Autor*in möglicherweise? Unter welchen Umständen wurde das Werk geschaffen? In welchem es umgebenden kulturellen Kontext? Was sollte bezweckt oder ausgedrückt werden? Auch Werke der Teilnehmer*innen selbst sollen am eigenen Hören der Workshop-Gruppe getestet.<br />
