Ceramics workshop

Workshop goal:
I introduce ceramics and ceramic techniques at a basic level with a lecture and it helps for students to broaden knowledges to understand ceramic and material possibilities. After the basic theory part we do small actual practice with ceramic materials.
Expected schedule:
- Lecture > 3 hours with question & comments (Or I can prepare more detailed lecture for separated dates because the contents could be seperated as theoretical part and practical part (technical introduction))
- Practice > 2-3 days and further extra schedules for private firing and glazing process
Contents:
- An introduction of ceramic history : I explain the history of ceramic in a cultural and archeological perspective. And also it shows how geographical features change the materials and ceramic works.
- Different kind of clay: porcelain- black/white/red/ brown/ paper clay/translucent clay
- Firing : Process of vitrification, Temperature, cooling process
- Different types of ovens and our labor oven usage
- Introduction of Glazing technique : I introduce theoretical examples of ceramic glaze recipes and temperatures.
- Engobe /Raku/ glaze/ Oil/ mineral clay
- Technical skills of ceramic : Wheel technique/ industrial ceramic molding technique/ hand making technique/ 3d printer technique
